For someone who started her blogging life out as a beauty blogger, I feel like I don’t blog about beauty all too often. But maybe that’s because I haven’t bought myself any new makeup recently? That all changed last week when I felt the need to have a little splurge.
And that little splurge has reginited my makeup love, which means I’ll need to stay out of Boots and Superdrug for a while for the sake of my bank balance…
It’s difficult to step into somewhere that sells makeup thanks to offers – 3 for 2, buy one get one half price, you know the score. So Maybelline, Soap & Glory and L’Oreal took my money. I’m sorry Mr debit card. Also, these are are a combination of products that I’ve been using for a few weeks and brand new products so think of it a haul and a mini-review post all rolled into one.
Face wise, I bought L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Matte Foundation and the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation. I’ve been wanting to buy the L’Oreal foundation for the longest time but I’ve never been able to decide what colour to go for – between 11 and 12. I ended up going for 11 (Vanilla) because I’d rather be a little too light than too dark, and I can always mix it with another foundation if it is too light. If it works for me and I need a darker shade then I can always buy it again at a later date. And I don’t know why I went for the Maybelline one because I’ve never read a review on it, but it was a little bit of an impulse buy. This is in the shade Ivory and I thought this would be a more dewy foundation for the summer than the matte L’Oreal one.
I haven’t bought any new eye makeup, bar a KIKO eyeshadow stick in January, since October. My collection was in serious need of an update! When the Seventeen Blogger Network got in contact with me and offered to send me a couple of bits, I jumped at the chance to try them out. I’ve been using the Easy On The Eye The Big Smoke Palette* more often than my Naked Smoky Palette for evening looks recently. I don’t often buy drugstore eyeshadows and palettes as they’re not usually the greatest quality (compared to the likes of higher end shadows), but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality the first time that I used it. It’s very similar to Sleek palettes in terms of both look and quality, so if you like those you’ll be a big fan of this.
I was also sent their new Long Lash Mascara* which I have used every single day since receiving it. After Saira was raving about it on twitter (and has since posted about it), I was all set to buy it myself anyway so it was a lovely surprise to receive it in the post. I never opt for lengthening mascaras but this has changed my mind and I would definitely consider buying them in the future.
But I couldn’t not buy a Maybelline mascara when it was half price (good ol’ buy one get one half price) as they are my favourite drugstore brand for mascaras. As I haven’t tried their most recent addition to their collection, I picked up The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara to ty out. At the time of writing this I haven’t tried it, but if it’s any good you’ll definitely see it in a future post (edit: I hate it).
I bought the L’Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim in addition to the foundation as I’ve heard so many good things about it, and I’ve been wearing liquid liner a lot more recently. My favourite liquid liner is the Soap & Glory Super Cat liner, and since this is a similar nib I decided to give it a go.
My favourite product to buy are eyeshadow palettes, but a close second are lip products. I’ve been eyeing up the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Matte Lip for a while which means that when they were 3 for 2, I had to buy 3. I love the gloss sticks but since I’m such a matte lip lover, I had to try them out. I opted for Choccoberry, Berry Much, and Ember Red (swatches below), and I’m so excited to wear them. Although in hindsight I probably shouldn’t have bought Berry Much as I won’t wear it through spring, but it was such a pretty colour and basically free!
I was also gifted a few KIKO goodies before Easter and I’ve finally had the chance to try them out, and I am impressed. I love the two KIKO lipsticks that I already own so when I got the opportunity to try out their Colour Click Lipsticks in 02/06*. I’m not a big pink lipstick wearer, but I did actually wear 06 out in public the other day and it looked fab (even if I do say so myself). It also lasts all day, even through eating and drinking!
And the last product that I bought was the L’Oreal Color Riche in 302 which is a gorgeous brown nude. I love brown nudes and I thought this sheer lipstick would make a nice change to the matte lip that I usually sport.
Buying new makeup makes me super happy, and I’m so glad to have updated my collection a little bit. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products (and if they were worth my money). And if you’d like me to review any of these products separately them just let me know!
