Lip taster sets are probably one of my favourite beauty products on the market. Last year in America I picked up one of Sephora’s Gimme Some Lip set and I loved it, and I was dying to try the Too Faced Merry Kissmas set (which was sadly sold out on the Debenham’s website at the time of ordering…but I’ve since got my hands on it – winner). Lip sets are the bomb!
As I mentioned in my Pay Day Haul in November, I picked up TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Mini Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Set from Feel Unique, and today I’m here to give you the low down on the set, and whether or not I think it makes a stellar Christmas gift for those lipstick lovers in your life (or even just yourself).
Retailing for £25, you get 7.2ml of lipstick across 6 different shades (£3.47 per ml). Compared to a full size of one Meet Matt(e) Hughes, this is a huge rip off (7.4ml for £13.50; and therefore £1.82 per ml)! With a traditional doe foot applicator, they’re pretty easy to apply; a longer wand would be nicer as I find I have a little more room to apply with, but you obviously get that with the full sized product. I am obsessed with the scent, and initially it did remind me of Christmas as it’s quite minty. I’ve since realised that they smell exactly like tic tacs (yum).
Each tube is about the size of my little finger, and comes in a range of shades – 3 nudes and 3 brighter tones – meaning you get half of the range in a variety of colours. In terms of wearability, the three nudes are great every day shades (Sincere has to be my favourite) but if you’re into the more vibrant tones then there’s something in here for you too. Loyal could be that perfect Christmas red everyone is dying to find each year. Like most liquid lipsticks, the nudes are much less streaky than the brighter shades when it comes to application. They do dry down very quickly and also last around 9 hours on average which is a big bonus, and there’s zero transfer!
I was going to include lip swatches like I did in my recent Rimmel post, but I have a monster spot just below my lip at the minute and the internet does not need to see that. But overall, they look really natural on the lips and they’re really comfortable to wear. They’re a little stick whilst they’re drying but they feel like nothing once they’ve dried down which is obviously my favourite consistency on the lips.
These are a great gift for someone this Christmas, but I don’t think I’d pay full price for them (£25 for the set). They’re just very expensive for the amount of product that you get. However, they are on 3 for 2 on Feel Unique at the moment so you best snap them up quickly if you think you need them in your life!
