I don’t know about you, but I won’t actually be wearing lipstick tomorrow. I won’t be wearing any makeup because I’ll be too busy cooking Christmas dinner and since it’s only the four of us this year, I’m not going to bother even dressing up (a loose Christmas jumper and joggers so I can fit all the roast potatoes in my belly is the plan). But I will be dressing up on the 29th for my second Christmas celebration and it’s vital that I have a lipstick that will last throughout dinner.
I’ve compiled the red lipsticks in my stash, both high end and drugstore, that are guaranteed to survive all the food you’ll surely pack into your body over Christmas Day.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso is a lipstick I picked up fairly recently in the Lips Are Sealed Duo, released for Christmas 2016. True to its name, this lipstick really does last all day and will survive the fattiest of roast potatoes!
I’m in love with the formula of the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and whilst not as long lasting as their Stila sisters, they’ve got a pretty good staying powder. The shade Outlaw is a beautiful Christmas red and it’s pretty high on my list of contenders for the part of Christmas where I make an effort.
Not too long ago, I was sent the entire range of the Rimmel The Only 1 Matte* lipstick range, and have fully swatched them all previously. Whilst I prefer the nudes in the collection, I can’t deny that Take The Stage is a stellar drugstore option if you’re looking for a red to last all day.
I love TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes liquid lipsticks (reviewed here), and the shade Loyal is a slightly deeper red that those previously mentioned in this post. This lasts around the same amount of time as the Stila offering so if you want a deeper shade that will last all day then this has got to be your pick.
Despite it not having dried down in this photo (it does take quite a while so it’s not one you want to apply if you’re in a hurry), the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour in Passion is a slightly pink-toned red. This is another great drugstore option which will survive Christmas dinner, but don’t expect it to survive the full day. And if you’re not a fan of sweet scents in lipsticks, I’d steer clear!
Too Faced Melted Matte in Lady Balls is one of the most beautiful lipsticks I’ve ever tried, and it came in one of my favourite Christmas sets this year. This is another red lipstick that will last most of the day, and another strong contender for my red lip of choice this year. Plus the name is a huge winner in my eyes.
And last but not least is the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, which is one of my favourite reds in my collection. This is a slightly red toned blue so makes your teeth look a little whiter, and it lasts a pretty long time too. I’m a big fan and really don’t wear this one enough!
I didn’t even realised I had so many long lasting reds in my stash, and this isn’t even all of them. Does this mean I need to have a clear out in the new year?
