You know when you go to write a post and the photos were taken so long ago that you forget how pants they are? This is one of those posts, so apologies (but when I was writing this post last night I couldn’t just hop on a train and retake because I have deadlines y’know).
Way, way back in November, I went to my first, and so far only, Christmas Market of the year. And it was fab. My boyfriend and I decided to go on his birthday for a gander, and it was far better than I remember it being (last time I went was almost 2 years ago). I think it helped that I went when it was dark, as opposed to it being the middle of the afternoon.
Christmas markets are just so magical because everyone just seems jolly (could be the festivities, could be the Bailey’s Hot Chocolate that many so lovingly nursed as they wandered about – including myself). The market in Leeds isn’t massive but it’s just big enough to spend a little bit of time there and get a feel for the atmosphere.
At the Leeds Christmas Market, there is always an amazing beer tent where they have an Oom-Pah band playing, although they weren’t quite as good as the band that plays at Bierkeller just down the road on a Friday & Saturday night, where everyone get a little bit rowdy. It does make for a cracking night out though if you’re in the area (although strictly no under-18s allowed after 4pm).
I think markets like this are the perfect time to try out ‘traditional’ market foods such as Currywurst, Pretzels, Crepes. Oh, and beer. You can also pick up some gorgeous Christmas decorations and small gifts for your loved ones too. I have a friend who got a really lovely clock from there this year, and a friend who got a beautiful necklace a couple of years back.
After the market trip, my boyfriend and I went to Prezzo for a gorgeous meal, and one too many glasses of wine, for a chill out, but you can definitely get some gorgeous food at the market if you’re interested.
The Leeds Christmas Market is on until the 20th December (2015 date, please check online for the current year’s dates) so if you’ve got a chance in the next week or so to go, I highly recommend it! If you need any extra information you can read all about it here.
