Today’s post was supposed to be beauty related, but wordpress seems to have eaten about 1500 words and I can’t reproduce that as quickly as was required. Instead, I’m giving you a quick bit of Christmas inspo for a Tea Cocktail.
We all go overboard with the booze at Christmas, so I’ve got a way for you to get the two British favourites into one sweet drink – tea and alcohol.
Tea Route launched earlier this year and has a huge selection of tea including seasonal teas, black teas, green teas and more fruity varieties. The Red Square Tea* is a mix of cranberries, apples and hibiscus with a fruity taste and a berry scent, and can we drank both hot and cold. I went for the cold option, which is a festive cocktail – the Cranberry Tea Cosmopolitan.
This recipe makes about 20 servings, so you can obviously cut this down to what you require – 20 servings for a party, or fewer if it’s just one or two drinks for yourself. Infuse 1 litre of water with 8 rounded teaspoons of Red Square Tea. Leave to brew overnight in the fridge (to be honest, I left it for about 36 hours but it totally depends on how strong you want it), then drain. For one serving, fill a shaker with ice, and add 10ml Orange Liqueur (I opted for Cointreau), 35ml Vodka, the Juice of half a lime, and 45ml of the tea infusion, which acts as the mixer. Shake until cold, and strain into a long glass.
This was sweet, and obviously citrusy, but the cranberries give it a festive spin. I’ve made this a couple of times and would definitely make it again on Christmas Day if I hadn’t already used all of the tea leaves. I’ve got my eye on the White Christmas and Four Red Berries teas to drink in the future, and maybe come up with another tea cocktail as exotic as the company owner’s recipe.
