Essential Twenty’s Blog Revamp

Essential Twenty Blog Revamp | Essential Twenty

You probably didn’t notice, but I’ve just not posted since Friday on here. That’s 3 days without content! By far the longest I’ve gone since starting this blog. You see, I’m having a bit of an identity crisis when it comes to my blog at the moment.

I want to be able to write engaging content with beautiful photos (and more than two per post). I want to be able to create obscure posts that nobody has ever done before. I want to be able to enjoy the writing aspect again. That’s why I started blogging – to write. I am pants at photography and don’t pretend to be any good at it. But recently I’ve been working on the ‘behind the scenes’ of Essential Twenty.

I had a bit of a blog revamp in January: new URL (and the DA has been a royal pain ever since), going self-hosted and a brand new theme. But I went cheap and it wasn’t exactly ‘me’. Now I’m changing my blog direction I felt like I needed a new theme, so over the past week I’ve made a few changes. I’m not 100% happy with the revamp just yet, but it’s something that’s going to take a bit of work.

I made my old header myself with my minimal design skill. Hey, I’m a biologist, I have zero art skills at all! I haven’t studied a creative subject in almost a decade. Whilst I’d have loved a fully customised blog header, my budget only stretches so far, so I’ve been putting it off for a while. The only custom header I’ve seen about are too cartoony for my liking and I wanted something a little more ‘together’. When I stumbled across the design I’ve picked I had to go for it. It’s more where I want to be with my blog and I’m chuffed to bit with it! Beatrice was quick, professional and has done a wonderful job with the edits I requested and I’d highly recommend her.

Am I a proper blogger now that I have a Pipdig theme? After some playing about I opted to Equinox and I’m in love! It couldn’t have been easier to install and the additional guides and plugins have been a godsend. Again, I’d love a custom theme but I’m not made of money. I’m especially short on cash with trips planned and Christmas on its way.

Now I’ve got to get my act together with the rest of my blogging life. I’m hoping the revamp will get me on it! It’s time to sort out my emails, give all my posts some fab SEO and keep on top of my to-do list. It’s going to be a long slog but I’m excited for Essential Twenty for the rest of the year and into 2018!
