It’s the last day of 2017 (bloody hell, that’s flown) so it’s time to set goals and resolutions. I find this a bit of a challenge every year, so I’m keeping with some easy goals that I can definitely achieve. Nothing in terms of numbers since every social media site is awful right now, but things that I want to achieve over the coming year. Some of these do follow the tasks I set myself earlier in the year as well as those I failed at from this time last year, but this time I’m far more focused. I can do this!
This year, I definitely want to find my photography groove. I really hate taking photos right now and I think it’s because I don’t know what I’m trying to achieve with it. In 2018 I want to find my photo groove and actually create a brand with them. Basically, I need to get out of my comfort zone!
I really need to get back into a blog routine in 2018. Towards the end of the year I completely lost my mojo and it’s a miracle I completed blogmas. Maybe not from tomorrow, but from 3rd January (when I go back to work), I’m getting back into a routine. I need to spend my weeknights tapping away and writing posts, and my weekends taking photos. Right now I have no back up photos and that can only be improved upon by getting into a routine.
I find that when I try with Pinterest, my blog traffic goes through the roof. 2018 is going to be the year that I actually try with Pinterest. It doesn’t take much to create pinterest optimised images (especially when I set up a template on Canva); I just have to set aside some time to do it for each post.
One of my biggest realisations of this year is that I don’t give myself enough credit for my blog. I’ve grown this from nothing and I love what I do, but I don’t put myself out there. In 2018, I’m putting my blog out there. I took a huge step by putting my blog on my LinkedIn page this year, and next year I’m going to continue to put myself out there. I’m going to reach out to brands and I’m going to let people know that Essential Twenty is here. I have loved collaborating with so many brands this year (especially when it’s come to theatre posts), and want to continue to do so again into 2018.
And one of the biggest goals that I set myself each year and never achieve is my final blog goal of 2018. This year I’m going to share the love. I’m going to comment (and remember to reply to comments that I’ve been left), I’m going to share and I’m going to give people the love they deserve as bloggers.
I feel like I set so many resolutions and goals for my personal life in 2017 that I didn’t achieve, so this year I thought long and hard about how I can improve on who I am as a person. 2018 is going to be all about being a better person.
From tomorrow, I am going cruelty free with my beauty purchases. Some of my favourite products do not come from cruelty free brands so this is the year I find alternatives. Okay, I’m putting my hands up to say I won’t not talk about non-CF brands on here (especially since they’re already in my collection; makeup and skincare is too expensive for me to just chuck away) but I won’t be buying anything from brands that test on animals in the future. I’m following this list to work out who I can buy from in 2018 and beyond, but I’m always open to hearing of your favourites.
In the same vein as going cruelty free, I am going to be more food conscious. I said this last year and did poorly when it came to eating things that are better for animal welfare. By switching from butter and margarine to dairy free alternatives, and for choosing quorn (or better, bean) filled dishes, I can reduce that amount of animal products going into my system. Due to commitments I made earlier in 2017, I can’t complete Veganuary but I will be doing a lot of research into vegan foods throughout the early part of the year with an aim to eat entirely vegan for a month later in the year.
My gym membership has been a total waste of money so far, but in 2018 I’m putting myself in a strict routine. No more excuses, I am using my gym membership to its full potential. But not only do I want to use my gym membership more, I want to just move more. I want to go on more walks, I want to hit my 10,000 steps a day on non-work days, and I want to try new gym equipment. Basically, I’m going to do what I should’ve been doing for years!
In 2018, I’m going to care less about what other people think. Last night, I unfollowed a bulk of people on twitter which I’ve been scared to do for the longest time. I was worried about the backlash but now I don’t care. In fact, it’s the same across all of my social media accounts. Life is too short so read 280 characters of drivel, especially when I disagree with what people are talking about.
On the other hand, one of my big goals for 2018 is to be the bigger person. There are friendships I miss that have broken down. Despite me insisting on these not being my fault, if the chance is there to repair the relationships then I want to. It might take more courage than I have right now, but it’s something I want to be able to do.
I’ve got a lot of goals to achieve in 2018, but they’re all doable. They’re nothing out of the ordinary, but they’re the right goals for me. At least I hope they are! What goals have you set yourself for 2018?
