I’ve been on the blogging scene on and off for a number of year, but Essential Twenty has been around for around 18 months now. Pretty good going if you ask me! When I was setting up my blog, I um-ed and ah-ed about whether it was best to go with Blogger or WordPress, and all the sites said WordPress as eventually you can own your own site. What I didn’t realise was that for any real customisation ability you have to do this. And I thought it was expensive…until this weekend. Welcome to the new and improved Essential Twenty.
I spent pretty much all day yesterday putting my blog back together after changing a lot (other than my header but I’ll come to that later in this post). Thanks to the expertise of Hayley and Corinne, and a little bit of help from Katie who has also gone self hosted in the past week, I finally have a blog I am happy to share with people outside of the community. It doesn’t mean that I will, but I’m getting more confident with my blog each week which is definitely something to be proud of!
If you’re looking at going self hosted and you’re already on wordpress it couldn’t be easier! I did it all myself with a lot of googling, and a tiny bit of assistance, but it’s honestly way less stress than I thought it would be. I bought my theme on etsy, I’m hosting through Tsohost and it’s made my blog so much cleaner and far less clunky.
I am on the look out for someone to design a new header for me, nothing complicated (probably just text but honestly I am rubbish with editing software so I’d rather pay someone to help me out), so if you know anybody or can let me know who designed your header that would be a huge help! For now I have one that isn’t very me, but it’s one that I designed myself a little while back.
I have a few more tweaks to make over the coming weeks and months, but I’m so chuffed with how it has turned out and now I need to lie down.
