What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag

I love makeup, and I love travelling. So today, I’d like to talk about what I take in my travel makeup bag. I do a lot of travelling to and from university, and to my boyfriend’s out of term time, so I usually have a weekend makeup bag to carry about. It changes season to season, but this is wedding season, and this is what I took on the last weekend of July when I headed to my boyfriend’s aunt’s wedding.

As this travel bag was for a wedding, I took more choices that usual. Normally I wouldn’t take a full eyeshadow palette or liquid liner, but I needed to get glammed up. I usually take a second blush or bronzer with me, but I didn’t this time. This is because I’d worked out the look I was going to wear for the wedding prior to getting on the train up to Lancashire, and knew I could use these to make a more subtle, every day look for the other days I’m there.

I love this Zoella makeup bag which I bought back when Zoe initially released her range. It’s big enough to fit all my makeup (apart from my naked palette, which I just slot in my suitcase between clothes) and brushes so it’s perfect for travelling.

I always make sure I take a primer, and this time, I took both the Body Shop All-In-One Instablur and the Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser. This was because if I have any breakouts, I’d rather apply the tea tree primer, but I know that the Instablur gives my makeup more longevity. I just had to decide on the day. Maybe it’s a little excessive to pop two primers into my travel makeup bag, but I couldn’t help it! I also took my three concealers that I use daily. These are Rimmel Match Perfection Illuminating Concealer in the shade Ivory for under eye circles, and I use a combination of Seventeen Stay Time Concealer in the shade Extra Fair and Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in the shade Fair if I need concealer anywhere else. I find that the combination of different colours and consistencies is best for my skin tone, and great to cover blemishes. For foundation, I am loving Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in the shade Ivory, and I powder over with Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder to mattify my T-zone. Usually I would use Transparent, but at the time of taking this selection of products, it wasn’t in my collection. Instead, I took the shade 002 Pink Blossom

For my bronzer, I took Soap & Glory Solar Powder. I’ve been using it for about a year now and I’m still not over my love for it, so I threw that into my bag, but I also took the Sleek Contour Kit in the light for a starker contour. I also use the highlight side in this kit because I find it easier to blend powder highlighters if I’m in a rush. For blusher, I took my Nars Orgasm Blush as I think this is beautiful for everyday wear, but also dressy for the wedding.

My eyebrows are not as important to me as they are to a lot of people, but I do like making sure they’re in place and relatively well filled so I’ve popped in a few bits in my travel makeup bag to give them a bit of a groom. I’ve been really loving the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Kit in Medium Brown, and I use the Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel in Transparent to set them in place. Rimmel have a whole host of other brow products in their collection, and they’re definitely worth checking out! I do love the L’Oreal Brow Expert kit but since I’ve lightened my hair, the colour I’ve got is too dark. If and when I go dark again, I will move back to the L’Oreal one because I adore it.

I took the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the shade Camel Coat to use as the perfect nude base for my eye makeup look, and took my Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette for the eyeshadow. These were used to create my wedding look, which I may upload at a later date. When I travel, I love to take my Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze because it’s such an easy eye colour choice and I don’t need to spend time blending out colours. I also took my black Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eye Liner in 100% Black but at the time of publishing this, I may have just used Blackout from the Naked 2 palette to create a smokier lash line. For my water and tight lines, I took my Bourjois Kohl & Contour Eyeliner Pencil in Black which I have been using for years (I’ve been wearing black kohl eyeliner for around 8 years, and I’ve always used Bourjois). I’m also testing out the Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara at the minute so I took that along with me. So far it’s a definite love.

I make sure I have a selection of lip colours when I go away, even if it’s just overnight. For the wedding, I took Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait, Clinique Long Last Lipstick in All Heart, and Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in the shade 03, as well as the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist. I also took GOSH Velvet Touch Lip Liner in Nougat Crisp.

On top of makeup, I obviously have to take brushes when I travel. You can’t not include a few tools in your travel makeup stash. My go to brushes are the Real Techniques Brushes which I take a variety of. The RT brushes I take when I travel are the Blush Brush, Expert Face BrushBuffing BrushDeluxe Crease Brush, Contour Brush, and the Powder Brush. I also take my MAC 217, the Superdrug Brow and Lash Brush, a Lancome Eye Brush, and a selection of cheap brushes from Amazon and eBay. These brushes include a variety contour brushes of varying thicknesses and eye brushes.

I think that’s everything I take when I travel. It’s certainly what I took to my boyfriend’s when I last went. As you can tell, I have my favourite brands *cough* Rimmel *cough*, but I do try to use a selection of makeup to get a more diverse look. What is your must-have beauty item when you go away for a few days? Tell me what’s in your travel makeup bag, I’d love to know!
