I feel like there are a handful of mascaras that people rave about in the beauty blogging community, and one of them is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I picked it up in a set with a deluxe sample of the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer almost a year ago, but it’s taken me until recently to try it out because my mascara collection is getting a little out of hand (I say ‘getting’, it’s been out of hand for a long time).
First, I don’t think Better Than Sex is the best way to describe it. Maybe TMI, but I’ve never thought that about a mascara. When I buy a mascara, I’m looking for a mascara that volumises, lengthens, holds a curl and fans out my lashes. This is potentially a lot to ask but this mascara actually does it, but at a cost.
Whilst I really like how the mascara makes my lashes look, it’s a pain to apply. I find it leaves marks on my lids and doesn’t dry particularly quickly. I’ve quite often had to get the eye makeup remover and concealer at the ready because I seem to sneeze a lot during my makeup application and get the worst panda eyes. Please tell me I’m not the only one?
So yes, Too Faced have brought out a fantastic mascara, but it’s not worth the £19 the full size costs. I love the hourglass shape of the wand and the fibre bristles, but it’s just not worth it in my opinion. It creates drama without clumpiness, but it also leaves black marks all around my eyes and this is a big no-no for me.
Sorry Too Faced, but you’re just a tad off with this mascara. I’ll be going back to using my trusty Stila HUGE Extreme Mascara when I have to repurchase a high end mascara.
