Disclaimer: This wasn’t in one shopping trip. This was in many little trips and online orders which just seem to equate to a lot of stuff. Sorry bank balance.
We all know that brands in the drugstore often have 3 for 2 or Buy One Get One Free offers, but it’s very rare that these offers are across brands. So when I got the opportunity to stock up on some drugstore products I’ve been wanting to try for a while, I jumped at the chance!
First I’ll start with the products that I haven’t go close ups of (mainly because they were either dirty or I couldn’t be bothered to swatch lol lazy Sophie). My most used buy in this excessive haul is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I’ve been dying to try the Beautyblender, but at £16 I couldn’t quite justify it. However, this alternative cost £5.99 and works beautifully. I love how airbrushed my face looks when I use this, and I’ve not used a brush to apply my foundation since having this in my stash. My only criticism is that it eats up my foundation. I have to use about three pumps to cover my face rather than just the one. Luckily I have a lot of foundations that I need to get through and this is definitely helping with that!
Speaking of foundation, I bought the Miss Sporty Instaglow Foundation. Although this is much too dark for me (that’ll teach me for rushing with swatches), at £3.49 I’m not too worried about having a foundation that is too dark in my stash. I haven’t made my mind up on the formula yet though so I’ll have to get back to you on that.
In terms of eyeshadow, I grabbed a few bits from Makeup Revolution. I picked up the Essential Mattes 2 Palette (£4) as I thought it had beautiful crease shades – I have a lot of shimmer shadows but mattes are obviously a lot nicer to run though the crease. I’m super impressed with the pigmentation in this palette! I also bought a couple of Makeup Revolutions Individual Shadows in So Good To Me & Promised Land (£1 each), which are beautiful bronze shimmers. Although I won’t be wearing a bronze eye through summer (I’m all about burnt reds and oranges at this time of year), these were too beautiful not to pick up for Autumn.
I also bought a backup of one of my favourite mascaras – the Maybelline Lash Sensational (RRP: £7.99, although it was £2 off at the time – bargain!), although this time in waterproof. I’m almost out of my original mascara which I bought in America last summer, and with summer coming up I thought a waterproof option would be better. Let’s just say I’m known to perspire. We can move on now. And then other than mascara but still in the lash domain, I picked up some falsies. These are the Eylure Naturals in 015 which I think set me back around £2 each (they were crazy cheap and I love a natural false lash look).
And the final unswatched product (although only because it won’t swatch) is the MUA Lip Liner in Clear (£1). I’m not a big lipliner user but I when it comes to dark lips, I have to line with something. I thought that a clear liner would be way more versatile than a general dark liner.
Now onto the swatches. When I was organising my makeup collection a month or two ago, I noticed that I didn’t own that many blushers. Obviously I needed to rectify that with a selection of highly pigmented £1 shades from MUA and Makeup Revolution. Left to right in the above swatch is Bon Bon (MUA), Candyfloss (MUA), Treat (Makeup Revolution) and Love (Makeup Revolution), and my most worn have definitely been Bon Bon and Love. Candyfloss is a little too pink and Treat is a little too orange, but the other two are perfect for my complexion.
I’ve been going through a highlight obsession recently, and in the last two months alone I’ve acquired around 10 shades. Whoops? From top to bottom are the Sleek Solstice Palette (£9.99 for four shades, the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlights in Iridescent Gold & Pink Shimmer (£3 each), and the Collection Speedy Highlighter Stick (£3.99).
I’ve been eyeing up the Sleek palette for a while and since all of the American beauty gurus have a new found love for this, I had to have it. It’s insanely pigmented and comes with three powders and one cream. The MUA highlighters were a little disappointing because they are not very pigmented and need warming up before the work well. I was actually after the Makeup Revolution equivalent, except it’s never in stock when I remember to pick it up. I’ll get it one day! The final product was the Collection highlight which took me so many trips to pick up. It was out of stock everywhere other than Superdrug in store, except they were all broken. Eventually it came back in stock online and I snapped it up straight away. It’s the easiest highlight I’ve ever used – swipe it on your cheekbones and blend out with your fingers – simple! If you’re new the the highlighting game then this would be my pick for you.
Maybe a bit of a mad buy? These are the Makeup Revolution Scandalous Lipstick Collection – 5 colours for the price of 4, and a bit of fun for fancy dress. Plus, I want to start doing more makeup looks on my blog now that I have my life back (I finished my degree today so that’s scary stuff), and I thought these would be perfect for those more daring looks I’ve been planning in my head. The purple is Depraved, the yellow is Felony, the orange is Vice, the pink is Crime and the blue is Immoral. The purple and the pink are beautiful, but the coverage just isn’t there for me on the other two. It takes a heck of a lot to build up any kind of pigmentation, but for 80p and I can hardly complain. Although the blue has made me want to be the proud owner of a deep blue matte liquid lipstick so watch out for that.
The final products I bought were some that I’ve been eyeing up for a while. Strictly speaking I didn’t buy these when Superdrug had their 3 for 2, but these were on 3 for 2 in Superdrug when I bought them a week later. And boy am I glad I waited because they also had £2 off each and an extra 10% off to celebrate the Health & Beauty Card’s 5th birthday. These are the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors, and I got the shades Seduction (nude), Addiction (purple), and Passion (red). I’ve only worn the nude so far but it’s pretty long lasting and the colouring is right up my street.
So that’s it for my humongous haul. And I’m back to having no money, but lots of new makeup to play around with so I’m a happy bunny. Have you picked up any great makeup deals recently?
