I’ve been having a real skincare moment recently, and after spotting Corrie Arnold posting a Skincare Q&A a few months ago, I had to get on board. It’s essentially a tag which I’ve not done in so long, so it’s a fun little filler post whilst I’m trying to do some research for an upcoming post. Without further ado, let’s learn more about me and my skin.
What is your skin type?
I used to get quite dry skin, but I’ve since realised that I’m combination (that’s classic oily t-zone but I get dry patches) with dehyrated skin. Whilst I don’t need lots of additional moisture, I do like to keep overnight hydrated masks in my stash to help out with the dehydration.
How do you store your skincare products?
I have a small drawer for face masks and a larger drawer for all of my other skincare products. The cleanser I’m using at the time is in my bathroom and my other every day bits are on my bedside table. I wish I had space to store it all in the bathroom but I just don’t!
What is your favourite skincare ingredient?
I’m really into the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser at the moment, and that contains 5% glycolic acid. So my favourite ingredient may just be glycolic acid. I’m actually really into trying out different acids in my routine right now, so this may change in the coming months.
What is your most indulgent product?
I don’t really spend a lot on skincare. Whilst there are some gorgeous bits and pieces I’ve tried, I really love the likes of the Superdrug Vitamin E range and bits and pieces from The Body Shop. I wouldn’t call it indulgent, but one of my more ‘princess’ pieces (aka not an essential but I love) is the Dermalogica Superfoliant*, but I also really love the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Hydrating Overnight Masque* when my skin is feeling parched.
What is your best budget beauty buy?
Definitely the Garnier Micellar Water. It’s always on offer, and you can often get a whopping 700ml for just £5 in Boots which lasts ages. I’m definitely loyal to this micellar water over all others, and it even removes waterproof eye makeup (which some eye makeup removers struggle with).
Do you use any tools?
Not really. I mean I use a muslin cloth every now and again (I really enjoy the ones that come in the Liz Earle starter kits) but I don’t think I’m that tool heavy in my skincare routine.
What are the best masks?
I love the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Hydrating Overnight Masque, and I also really enjoy using The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask and the Rodial Super Acids X-Treme Acid Rush Peel if my skin needs a good exfoliate (physical or chemical). If you’ve read my blog on a Friday, you’ll know that I love trying new masks as I currently have a series going called Face Mask Friday.
What is the best multi-use product?
I don’t really multitask with many products, but I do quite like just using a cleanser instead of a face wash. I feel like face washes don’t make my face feel quite as clean as a deep cleanse, so to me a gentle cleanser works so much better. Although I definitely don’t have a specific, just whatever creamy cleanser I have floating about at the time.
What is your favourite brand?
Recently I’ve been loving The Body Shop for both skincare and body care, but I’m also a big fan of the Pixi products I’ve tried. It’s definitely between those two brands for me at the moment, although I was a lover of the Boots Botanics range a year or two back. This was a great budget brand, and I guess it’s still sort of budget friendly but they’ve repackaged and it’s about three times the price now so I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to it.
What is the best spot treatment?
I think prevention by drinking lots of water and eating properly is way better than any treatment I’ve ever come across, but I do try to incorporate tea tree into my routine when I’m having more than a hormonal breakout and it does calm the affected areas.
What is your favourite step in your skincare routine?
Honestly, is there anything better than peeling off a pore strip and seeing a lot of gunk come out of your pores? I love Biore strips for this (even though they’re a little pricey), and whilst it’s gross it’s also so satisfying. Other than that, I love massaging night cream into my face. It’s so much more indulgent than day cream, and I have more time to enjoy the moisturising aspect of my routine in the evening.
What is on your skincare wish list?
I mean, you could just check out this post to see what I’ve lusted after recently, but at the moment I’m really interested to try some of the Sephora Face Masks.
I’ve not tagged anyone, although this is a tag, so if you are interested in answering these questions yourself send me a tweet when you post goes live. I’d love to have a read!
