Rimmel Magnif’Eyes Grunge Glamour

on January 19, 2017

Have I ever said how much I appreciate the Rimmel PR? Surprise mail is my favourite, and the pieces that drop through my letterbox are always fantastic picks! Just before Christmas, a party edit appeared including a new eyeliner for me to try, a lipstick I’ve had my eye on for a little while and a brand new eyeshadow palette for me to try. I don’t often pick up drugstore palettes other than Makeup Revolution, so it was almost refreshing to try something new. And the Magnif’Eyes Grunge Glamour Palette*  was the perfect breath of fresh air in my collection.

This palette contains one matte shade and seven shimmers, with a range of paler and deeper tones. Like most palettes, high end or drugstore, the matte shade is pretty weak. It has very little pigment, and the white shade is similar (despite it being a shimmer). The first half of the palette follows this trend, but the gold, plum and blue-grey are stand out shadows and worth a mention. They are beautifully pigmented and blend out pretty well for drugstore options.

What this palette is lacking is a good transition shade. As a starter palette, it’s a pretty good buy, but if you’re more seasoned in the world of eye shadow palettes you may be a little disappointed. I have used this palette a couple of times alongside a Pur eyeshadow palette that I have, with the gold/bronze shimmer in the centre of my lid. It makes for a great weekend eye look!

Looking at the colours in this palette, especially the blue-grey on the right hand side, this palette very much reminds me of the look of the original Urban Decay Naked palette (which I still don’t have…why?!). This palette is one of three recent palette launches from Rimmel, with the other two being Keep Calm & Wear Gold (a gold based collection, similar in shades to Naked 2) and London Nudes Calling (more pink in tone, similar to Naked 3). Compared to the the other two palettes, this particular one is a lot more edgy and better for a smokier eye. I can’t say I’ve been these in my local Boots, but it’s always late to the party. I’m so tempted to pick up the other two palettes though!

Have you had a look at these palettes in store yet? Let me know your thoughts!
