    My Reaction To Gone Girl

Growing up, I was an avid reader. I would easily get through a minimum of one book per week, but that all changed when I started my A Levels. I’ve had almost five years of not reading, and I hate it. I just don’t have the time though! But when I was on holiday, I knew this was my chance to read.

    Gone Girl

Unfortunately, I get travel sick so I couldn’t read in the car and was too knackered whenever we got to where we were staying to stay up and read. However, a couple of weeks ago I finally finished the book I started on holiday, and that was Gone Girl. I’m not going to say I’m great at articulating my views on a book, but I am going to tell you my final reaction.

Due to the awful weather recently, photography just isn’t happening for me right now. However, I wasn’t going to let that stop me from posting.

    My Worst Beauty Habits

Let’s admit it, we all have habits that we should really break. Most of mine are beauty related and today I thought I’d share my bad habits with you. Most of it comes from laziness, other bits from forgetfulness, and some things are just a 20 year old habit which I can’t seem to kick.

    My Worst Beauty Habits

Hoarding Makeup I’m the worst at throwing makeup away. I’ve paid good money for this and I don’t care if I have 7 of the same shade of lipstick, I’m keeping them all.

Biting My Nails Biting my nails is something I have always done. I go through stages where I grow them but then they just break and I can’t be bothered with the upkeep. Please, please, please can somebody recommend me a way that actually works for stopping nail biting!

Forgetting To Take My Makeup Off This is another laziness thing. Most days, I’m really good at taking off my makeup and being a ‘good’ beauty blogger, but other days (especially bad days where I’ve come home and climbed straight into bed) I’m just far too lazy. It’s not even like I have far to go to get something to remove my makeup and the drawers I store everything in is to the side of the bed, I’m just a really lazy person. Even if I do take it off, I’m pretty bad at using a proper cleanser and just use micellar water even though I know it’s not as good.

Not Exfoliating My Lips I don’t feel like I can be blamed too much for this, as I have tried to like the Lush Lip Scrubs for the longest time, but they taste too much like pure sugar and I end up just licking it all off. Everytime I’ve bought a little pot, I’ve ended up gifting it to a friend a few weeks later because it’s just getting wasted. I’ve been looking at other lip scrubs, and I might have to buy one from The Body Shop as I’m sure I won’t end up licking it off.

Not Cleaning My Brushes Often Enough I’m so lazy with my brushes, and although I try to wash them regularly, I have somewhere around the 50 or 60 mark to clean and it’s just so hard! To be honest, I’m not sure how often you’re supposed to clean them (I know most people do it every week but I’ve heard once a month is fine, and there are people out there who do it twice a week), but as I wrote in my review of the Real Techniques Core Collection, I’m so lazy that I bought another set so I didn’t have to clean them as often. I quite often use a brush cleanser, but I know it isn’t as good as shampoo, and it makes my brushes feel weird and smell funny.

Forgetting To Apply SPF Sure, most of my facial moisturiser has SPF in it, as do a couple of my foundations, but I don’t apply SPF enough in general. Especially on my body. When I was on holiday, my uncle practically choked us in aerosol sun cream but if it wasn’t for him, I’d have probably forgot.

Being Too Lazy To Moisturise My Body Another lazy issue. I always remember to moisturise my face when I get out of the shower, but my body gets pushed to the side. Sorry scaly legs, you’re staying snakelike for now.

I have a lot of bad beauty habits, I’m sorry! What are you worst habits? Spill your dirty secrets below.

    Autumn Eye Makeup Wardrobe 2015

After I wrote up my lip product wardrobe a couple of weeks ago, I thought I’d let you into what I’ve been wearing on my eyes. Autumn is all about the golds and bronzes for me, and this is fully represented in what what I’ve been wearing over the last month or two.

My eye makeup is totally dependent on how much time I’ve got in the morning, and how much I can be bothered to blend out shadow. Until this September, I didn’t realise how many different shadows I have that are perfect for autumn and I accidentally bought another palette in October (see later). But I use them all so it’s worth it, right?

For a super easy autumn eye look, I love to go for Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo in On & On Bronze – a staple in any makeup lover’s collection. I use this probably once a week and just apply it all over the lid with my fingers. The Collection Eyeshadow stick above is just one example of a number of eyeshadow sticks I have (think Rimmel and KIKO) which require a little more work than the cream eyeshadow, but they’re still pretty easy to work with. I’ve been loving bronzey hues in eyeshadow sticks and have three that I’ve been cycling between. If I’ve not been wearing a bronze or gold eye, I’ve been going for a rust red eye as per the look that appeared in my August Favourites using the Stila In The Light Palette. and the KIKO Infinity Shadow in 211 is the perfect colour for this. If I’ve been wearing a gold eye, I’ve been using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Liner on my waterline to emphasise my lower lash colour, and this works so well. It makes my eyes really stand out, and the scandaleyes eyeliners last all day.

I love a great palette, and these three have been my most used this autumn. The Naked 2 is probably my favourite palette of all time as it can the perfect natural eye look so effortlessly. This appeared in my October favourites, and for good reason. To be honest, it could have appeared in every favourite post I’ve ever written. The Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette was a spontaneous buy when I was in Las Vegas. I spotted it in the clearance section and I knew about it from somewhere (I want to say Louise mentioned it in a video a very long time ago) so I treated myself. Although I’ve not got a lot of use out of some of the colours, the golds and bronzes have really been well loved by me. I’m more likely to experiment with this palette for nights out, but I’ve not been going on many recently.

The final palette I have been loving is the Zoeva Cocoa Blends palette. I had been lusting after this for months, but it was never in stock on The Beauty Bay. But one October evening (the day before my 21st birthday), I spotted that it was back in stock and made a rash purchase. But it’s not one that I regret. This whole palette is super wearable, and I’d describe it as a glamorous neutral palette. To be fair, if you’ve got the Naked 2 then you probably don’t need this as well but I’ve a palette hoarder so I had to add it to my collection. Some people like lipsticks, others like foundations, but I’m a definitely powder eyeshadow lover.

What eye looks have you been rocking this season?

Blogger Induced Buys – Were They Worth The Hype?

We’ve all done it – we’ve all bought a product because a group of people were going on about it and you just thought you had to have it in your life. This is why blogging and reading blogs is so detrimental to my bank balance. I am the worst at being influenced, and today I want to talk about some of the products that I’ve bought on blogger say-so.

NARS products were completely alien to me before I started reading blogs a couple of years ago, and after a few months I just had to get my hands on their most talked about products. Laguna, to me, is the ultimate universal bronzer. It’s not too dark, it’s not too light, and it’s not too orange. I think £27 for a mere 8g of packaging is pricey, but it is a really great bronzer and I think it was worth me buying. I use it quite frequently, and it lasts a long time (I’ve had this for a year and a half and I’m only just getting towards pan). Orgasm is a blush I have a love/hate relationship with. It was the first high end blush that I ever bought and it is a really pretty colour, but there is too much gold in it for me. It’s incredibly glittery and although I like it, it won’t be a blush that I go out and repurchase once I’ve used it up. Soap & Glory is killing it with their product launches at the moment, and thanks to a number of bloggers, I heard about Solar Powder early on in its release. As you can see, I’ve hit pan on half of it (as I occasionally use this side as a contour shade) and that’s because I adore this product. At less than half the price of Laguna, it’s worth getting your hands on. I like to swirl the two shades together to warm my face up and it’s another one of those ‘universal’ bronzers. TheBalm’s Mary Lou-Manizer was a highlighter that I picked up a couple of months ago after a number of bloggers raved about it. For me, it’s very glowy. It’s too much for an everyday highlight, even if it is gorgeous. This is definitely a night time highlighter, and although I love it, I wouldn’t say that it would be the end of the world if I didn’t own it. However, it is the first highlighter that I would repurchase if all my makeup disappeared.

Less than a year ago, I wasn’t that adventurous with lip products, but I’ve got into them a lot more recently. MAC Velvet Teddy was a product that everyone raved about not too long ago, and for good reason. I have mentioned it in so many posts, so you know that it’s a good one (at lease in my opinion)! This is the MAC lipstick everybody needs in their collection. On the flip side, Revlon Lip Butters are just not for me. They’re not a lipstick, they’re not a balm and they’re not a gloss. I can’t quite work out where they sit on the spectrum and they seem to expire a lot quicker than other lipsticks. I currently own three and I can’t make any of them work for me. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is a love/hate product for me. Sometimes it does wonders, and other times it’s too drying or too cakey on my skin. I much prefer Seventeen’s equivalent concealer as it does the same job, but without the issues that I get from the Collection one. It also does my head in that all the writing fades after about three uses (this is actually a back up that I bought ages ago before I discovered Rimmel Wake Me Up so this is totally unused).

Skincare products are not things that I’m easily swayed by. I just use what I know works for me and experiment in my own time. Mainly because the products that a lot of people talk about are way out of my student budget. However, there are a couple which the blogosphere has persuaded me to get my hands on. Pixi Glow Tonic is a product which I haven’t actually decided if I like yet. I don’t have a solid skincare routine down yet which includes this, but I know that I can’t use this twice a day, or even daily. It’s quite drying on the skin, but it does give my face a real glow. I’ve been using this maybe two or three times a week and it does brighten my skin so hopefully it’ll continue to work (also I hope it works because my mum bought me a full sized one a few weeks back). Bioderma is a micellar water which everybody has heard of, and when Feel Unique started stocking it, I decided to give it a whirl. Although it’s good, it’s not great. You can get more bang for your buck with other micellar waters and I just don’t see the need to spend £10+ on 250ml.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think about them? Or are there any products that you’ve tried on blogger recommendation but felt really let down by them? Let me know below. And don’t forget I’m giving away Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky palette so check that giveaway out.

    My Yankee Candle Votive Collection

In the last month or so, I have seemed to be unable to stop myself from buying candles. My favourite budget options are from Ikea and Dunelm, but recently I’ve been buying the odd votive from Yankee Candle. I’m going to blame my boyfriend for this since he bought me two for my birthday and now I can’t stop.

Starting with the candles that he bought me, I own Christmas Cookie and Snowflake Cookie. My boyfriend says that he wanted to buy me smells that he liked, but also ones that I’d like. Apparently this means sweet candles which smell like baked goods. Christmas Cookie smells exactly like sugar cookies which I had in America, and Snowflake Cookie smells more like an iced cookie that you’d have over here.

On my birthday, I was going to treat myself to Candy Cane Lane but my boyfriend also bought me that when we were out. The peppermint scent reminds me of Christmas since every year my mum buys me a box of candy canes to hang on the tree. This is the one Christmas candle that I promised myself I would buy this year, and if it burns just as beautifully as it smells, I’ll definitely be stocking up on these.

As mentioned in my York Haul, I bought Cranberry Ice and Candy Corn. I was lusting after Candy Corn for the entirety of October but nowhere seemed to sell the votive and I didn’t want the full sized candle. However, on Halloween I popped into a gift shop and they had 20% off their Halloween scents, so I finally managed to pick it up. It smells just like Candy Corn which is a very sweet fudgy smell (basically perfect for Halloween). Cranberry Ice was bought from the Yankee Candle shop and smells like a combination of winter berries and cherryade, aka my absolutely favourite smells for candles (sweet, but not too sweet).

If you’re anything like me and love candles, autumn and winter are the best time to buy and light them and I can’t wait to get these burning!

Have you got any favourite Yankee Candle scents, or any that you’re dying to try? Let me know in the comments below.
