Olympus 45mm f1.8: A Blogger’s View

Olympus 45mm f1.8: A Blogger’s View

When I started blogging, I used my phone. Now the iPhone 6 works just fine, but I wanted to get my hands on a camera. If you ask bloggers what they use to take their photos it’s usually their phone, a fancy DSLR that I just don’t have the funds for, or one of the PEN cameras from Olympus. I have the Olympus PEN E-PL7 and I’ve finally picked up the coveted Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens. The lens that every blogger seems lust over is part of my blogging kit and I can finally talk about it!

I’m not going to pretend that I know anything about photography. I’ve only recently learnt how to use the manual mode on my camera so I’m definitely not an expert. But I can talk about how much I love this lens.

Some of the photos in this post have previously been used in my summer’s day post but they show what this camera can do so beautifully that I had to share them again! The real appeal of this lens is the capabilities it has to blur the background, what I now know is called bokeh. This is the effect that a lot of bloggers, particularly fashion bloggers, are after in their lenses. I’ve even managed to get a couple of shots of people to illustrate this.

You only have to look at the photos on my blog compared to the photos around the month ago just to see the difference a new lens makes. I almost can’t believe I’ve been using the kit lens for over a year; I wish I’d have bought this one sooner! Olympus, you’ve done good with this one.

I’ve very much got my eye on the 35mm lens next, but I need to save some money first. What lenses have you got your eye on? Or are you all about a new camera completely? Let me know, as this year is the year I’m determined to learn a little more about photography!

Niiiiiiice! I’m thinking of going travelling soon and I’m trying to collect as much information as I can about what photography items would be perfect, so this is super helpful – thank you! The blurred background makes your pictures level up! xxx

  • Clearly I am not a true blogger because I had no idea this was the lens people were using (I may have been living under a rock) These photo’s are gorgeous though, it really makes me want to buy this lens now!! *Extreme heart eyes* <3
