New In My Lip Stash

on October 11, 2016

I go through stages of buying loads of products from one particular category. Concealer, mascara, eyeshadow; they’ve all had their time. Recently it’s been lip products that I’ve gathered a lot of.

new-lips

For someone who is trying to cut back on their makeup spending (lol), I think I’ve added a reasonable amount of lip products into my stash, but nothing too crazy. Although you may think five is a little excessive, but I highly doubt it if you’re reading this post.

A brand I have loved since I first started getting into makeup, thanks to Zoella raving about their Au Naturel palette and me having to buy it, was Sleek. I’ve spoken about a few of their products, including the much loved Solstice Palette. When they offered to send me a couple of lip products to upgrade my autumn lip wardrobe, I was hardly going to say no.

The first product they sent was their Matte Me in Vino Tinto*; the perfect autumnal berry tone which dried down to a beautiful red wine shade that’s a little lighter than it looks in the tube. I’ve had my eye on this since I saw a photo Hayley wearing it way back when it came out and I just never got around to buying it, but I’m excited to have it in my life. It’s a little streaky to apply and works best with a lip liner underneath, but the end result is beautiful. I’ve previously tried the shade Birthday Suit but Vino Tinto is actually much better. The formula is a little thinner in consistency which makes it a little less opaque, but it means it is a lot easier to build up without it going too patchy. I also find that this doesn’t flake as quickly as Birthday Suit. Plus, the applicator is a lot easier to work with. The old applicator is long and thin, and a little difficult to apply the product with, but the newer doe foot applicator makes it really easy to apply the lipstick. The Sleek lip creams are one of the cheapest liquid lips on the market and if you’re in love with the trend as much as I am (we all know I love it because I’m lazy and don’t have to reapply through the day) you should grab these in all the colours available because they’re a bargain at only £5 a pop.

The second lip product that Sleek sent me was the Gloss Me in Phoenix Rising* which was a fun one to try. I don’t wear glosses because I hate them getting into my hair and they fade so quickly on the lips, but they can be fun in certain situations. Phoenix Rising is another berry tone but it is packed full of pink glitter. Definitely not an every day gloss, but fun for the upcoming Christmas party season. I wouldn’t wear this on it’s own because it’s not very opaque and also bleeds a tiny bit, but over Vino Tinto it looks incredible. It deepens the shade of the liquid lipstick but gives it a beautiful sheen, and also locks in the colour for a little longer. Roll on the festive season so I can wear this lip combo every day!

If you are in the beauty community but haven’t heard that Kat Von D has launched in Debenhams last month, you must have been living under a rock! Before the launch, I’d only tried her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita (read my thoughts on it here) but I knew that I wanted to try more so on the day of the launch I grabbed the one product I’d been wanting to try for an entire year and always seems to be sold out in Sephora – her Everlasting Liquid in Bow N Arrow. I would’ve bought way more but I was still unemployed at the time so I just went for my top choice. Sephora describes this as a ‘fawn nude’ and that is definitely the shade, but if that means absolutely nothing to you, it’s a light brown with a hint of grey. Basically a very pale nude that’s perfect for winter. This is a little thinner in consistency than the Sleek liquid lipstick and the doe foot applicator makes it super easy to apply. I’ve heard people say it’s a little patchy on them, but it’s okay on me and fades pretty evenly too.

This month, Love Me Beauty had three Kat Von D minis for £10+P&P so i put my hand in my purse and grabbed those too. I’m a sucker for minis (the travel section near the tills in Sephora is difficult for me), and two of them happened to be lip products. The first was Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid lipstick in Outlaw which is described as a brick red, but it’s definitely more of a pillarbox red. I don’t wear a lot of red lipsticks because a lot of effort is required in application and touch ups but now I have it in liquid lipstick formulation I’m more likely to wear reds. To me, autumn and winter lip colours are berry tones, dark nudes and true reds so I can definitely see myself wearing this in the coming months.

The final lip product that’s been added to my collection recently is the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Magick which is a sweet dusty pink with a shimmer finish, although the shimmer is very subtle (not full glitter like the Sleek Gloss Me). This has such a creamy formula and seems to last a pretty long time considering how smooth it is. I wouldn’t necessary wear it through autumn, but I can’t wait for spring to roll around as the light pink will be so great during the warmer months. After trying out the formula, I’m so tempted to pick up the shades Cathedral, Prayer and Thin Lizzy for the cooler months. Although I wouldn’t recommend these if you don’t like scented lip products, I’m not sure you’ll like these (think MAC scent amped up).

What are your recent lip product purchases? Especially if they’re perfect for autumn, because I want more (as you can tell I don’t need more, I just want more).
