Although I’ve put myself on a very strict spending ban at the moment, my trip to America introduced me to a new side of makeup – high end lip products. I’ve never really been that into lipsticks or glosses or anything until the last few months, mainly due to laziness (I could never be bothered to reapply colour throughout the day), but I’ve been slowly getting braver with lip products as this year has progressed.
When I was in America, I bought a Sephora Gimme Some Lip Set (which I feel has since been discontinued because I can’t find it online) and I was hooked on high end lip products. Sure, these aren’t the most high end of products, but I need to start slowly. Until I known I’ll wear them, I’m not going mad at a Tom Ford stand.
As mentioned before, Sephora got me loving the high end lip products and in that set I managed to pick up a full sized Tarte Amazonian Clay Butter Lipstick in Coral Blossom (centre), a miniature Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita (second from right), a miniature Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Peony, a miniature Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in Je T’aime, a miniature Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Rosé, and a miniature Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss in 202 (the latter four are not pictured). After this bargain buy at $25, I was hooked.

Whilst in America, I also claimed the Sephora birthday gift which, this year, is a miniature Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and a Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien. Rikugien is a beautiful pink-nude but the real star of the show in Cruella. I am in no way a red lip wearer but this is the most incredible lip product in the world. I wore this on mine and my boyfriend’s anniversary a couple of weeks ago and it didn’t budge at all when we were drinking wine and eating our weight in food. I also picked up a Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick Duo miniature from Sephora in Fig/Date. Let’s be honest, once I got started I wanted to try everything, and that’s the best thing about Sephora. There are so many minis that you can try a bit of everything without breaking the bank.
After I was let loose in Sephora, I ventured into MAC. As I mentioned in my September favourites, I was very late to the MAC Lipstick party. Velvet Teddy is honestly one of the most perfect nudes I’ve ever tried and I am actually very ashamed of myself for not buying this sooner. I now understand the hype behind these lipsticks and this colour in particular.
Since being home, I’ve not bought anywhere near as many lip products, but I did have a gander on the House of Fraser website and they had 10% off Urban Decay lipsticks. After Hannah talked about the Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Liar in her updated makeup collection video, it’s been on my radar, and with the discount I couldn’t resist. This is a very sheer ‘my lips but better shade’ and I’m so happy it’s in my collection.
As I said at the start of this post, I’m taking a break from spending, especially on lip products because I’ve spent a lot recently, but I’ll definitely be taking a lot of higher end brands into consideration when I’m after a new lippie.
Do you stick to drugstore lip brands like I normally would, or are you a sucker for a high end lipstick? Let me know what your favourites are in the comments below.
