Disclaimer: This isn’t my every day face because I’m a lazy arse and don’t wear makeup every day but this is what I wear when I do wear makeup.
I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while because I love reading these sorts of posts and I want to get back into posting beauty. Plus this came second in the poll I ran on twitter on a couple of weeks ago about what I should’ve posted the following day (you can find the winning choice here). This is my every day makeup.
My base collection is very drugstore heavy and I’m just fine with that. My absolute favourite primer is Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot which I have talked about before. It’s not greasy at all which is my biggest issue with primers, but it still keeps my makeup on all day. For concealer I love Maybelline Eraser Eye for under my eyes and Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer for everywhere else, but I do really like Seventeen Stay Time Concealer. I didn’t really wear foundation until about a year ago (I was all about the powder and nothing else) and I’m happy with the foundations that I own. My favourite at the minute Rimmel Wake Me Up although mine’s a little bit dark so I need to replace that with the lighter shade. I used to prefer Rimmel Match Perfection but it’s a little lightweight for my skin at the minute and I have a few too many spots for it.
Things I hoard: eyeshadow palettes and blushers. I love to buy new bronzers and blushers and they can make such a difference to your look. My every day bronzer is definitely Nars Laguna as it’s a great contour shade but also fab for just warming your face up a little bit. If it’s not Nars, I love Soap & Glory Solar Powder but this is a little to glowy for winter wear. For blusher, I have a huge collection but my current favourite is MAC Dolly Mix; I pretty much wear this every day. If I’m not wearing Dolly Mix I often reach for Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in Jasper Rose, Topshop Do It Again and Nars Orgasm although these tend to be quite rare at present. Highlighting is still something I can’t decide whether I love or not. I mean, I love the shades and the products but I think it just makes me look shiny. Regardless, I love MAC Soft & Gentle and theBalm Mary Lou-Manizer. Soft & Gentle is a really subtle every day highlight whereas I go for Mary Lou-Manizer when I’m looking for a little more of a wow factor – it’s definitely a night out highlight.
Eyes, eyes, eyes. My favourite of all the makeup products. There’s something about applying eyeshadow that changes my whole look, as well as my mood. I love Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base for my eyes if I’m going for a full on eye look, but if I’m going for a easy option, I’m all about Maybelline On & On Bronze. Maybelline Colour Tattoos are some of my favourite eye products, but On & On Bronze is the perfect every day colour. I always struggle to pick eyeshadows in the morning, but my favourite palettes are Lorac Pro and Naked 2. My favourite shades in the Lorac Pro palette are Mauve and Pewter, and my favourites in Naked 2 are Half Baked, Chopper, Suspect and YDK. My only issue with the Naked palette is the sheer amount of shimmer shades in it, but they work well if I can be bothered to blend it all out properly.
If I can be bothered with liquid liner, I will always choose Soap & Glory Super Cat Liner as it’s the only one I’ve ever been able to get to grips with. It’s so easy to use and unless I sneeze mid line, I pretty much always get it right. For pencil liner I am loyal to my Bourjois Kohl & Contour eyeliner and I’ve been using it since I was 12 (remember the eyeliner and no other makeup days? Good times). It lasts all day and isn’t ridiculously expensive either. For mascara, my current favourite is Maybelline Lash Sensational. I heard rave reviews last summer so couldn’t resist picking it up when I saw it in America in September. It holds a curl all day and is super cheap so you need it if it isn’t in your collection yet. Do eyebrows fit in here? If they do, I use the lightest shade in the Smashbox #shapmatters Palette to fill my brows, then set them with Natural Collection Clear Mascara – why spend a fortune on brow gel when a £2 clear mascara does the same job?
Lip products is another thing that took me longer than it should’ve done to get into. I was just too lazy to apply things properly. I’m still pretty much exclusively using the colours that I talked about in my A/W 2015 Lipstick Wardrobe but my latest addition to my favourites is the KIKO Luscious Cream Lipstick in 520 that I picked up in my Mini Makeup Haul last week.
Setting My Makeup
In order to set my makeup, I use Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder and Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. The powder gets dusted over my face after concealer and foundation, and the spray is the last thing I spritz before I leave the house. I honestly haven’t found a better combination yet and I’ve sort of stopped trying since this works so well for me.
I think that’s everything I put on my face in an every day situation, but I’m sure I’ll apply makeup later today and I realise I’ve missed something.
