This A/W season, I’ve been wearing the same lipsticks. There’s something about autumn and winter that makes me seek the comfort of routine. I have a variety of high end and drugstore lipsticks that have been coming out regularly, and if you’ve seen me about, I’ve definitely had one of these on my lips.
Nudes are my go to lipstick shade, due to their wearability. They’re easy to apply, they don’t need a lipliner and there as so many different shades of nude to try. MAC Velvet Teddy is the perfect brown nude, and there’s a reason that everybody raves about it. It popped up in my September favourites and my post on what I would repurchase if all my makeup disappeared, and that’s because I love it. This was an America purchase, and I don’t regret it one bit. If you only own one MAC lipstick, make it this one. MAC Fast Play is a lipstick in my collection which I bought after seeing it on Lily in her Boots Haul in October. It’s another brown-toned nude, but it’s a little more pinky than Velvet Teddy which makes it a tiny bit more flattering on so many skin tones. This is actually probably more flattering on me than Velvet Teddy, but I’m not a huge pink lip wearer. YSL Rouge Volupte 3 (Ultimate Beige) is another brown nude which I bought when Feel Unique had 15% off. Out of all the lipsticks I’ve been wearing this month, it’s probably my least worn. The longevity isn’t as good as some of the others, and that’s the main reason for me not wearing it quite as often. And yet another brown nude that I’ve been loving is Topshop Lips in Mink which has been a firm favourite of mine for a couple of years now. I wear it all year round, but it’s perfect for autumn and winter. It’s probably the deepest brown nude I own, and my friends see this as my colour because I wear it so regularly. This even popped up in my favourite nude lip colours. Can you tell I love a brown nude?
If I’ve not been wearing nudes, I’ve been wearing a berry lip. Berry lips go amazingly with gold eye makeup and whilst they’re a lot harder to apply than nudes, they have a greater impact on a makeup look. Both of these lipsticks can be found in my October favourites so if you want a full review, head over there. Topshop Lips in Beguilled is a red-toned berry lipstick which actually fades beautifully evenly which is my main issue with bright lips. I hate if they fade badly and your lips end up patchy. Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Divine Wine is the most amazing berry lipstick I own in terms of both colour and wearability. I bought this after seeing Alix talk about it in this video since I was after a new berry lip and I love a matte lipstick. Although it’s a pain to apply since I don’t have a lipliner for it (forever on the hunt), it lasts all day without fading, even through eating and drinking. It’s not as creamy as a matte lip from MAC, but it’s not drying in the slightest. I’m definitely going to try out other lipsticks from this collection.
Talking about matte lips, the final lip colour I’ve been wearing a lot is the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita. This is another brown shade, but not a nude. It’s hard to explain the actual colour but nonetheless, I love it. This is a lot more drying than the Maybelline matte, but it’s not uncomfortable on the lips. After buying this in America, I really want to try out some more of these.
