September means autumn in the blogging community (despite it not being officially autumn until next week) which means it’s time to whip out the cable knits and berry lips. I’ve already begun transitioning my skincare to some more autumn/winter friendly products which I will be talking about next week, but today I want to share with you my favourite lip products for this time of the year.
Until last year I wasn’t that brave with my lip products so I’ve got some easier shades to wear than others as well as my more extreme lip colours. These are my top 5 for your collection for this season.
I’ll start with the berry lips as that’s what so many people seem to reach for in the cooler months. MAC Diva is the most recent addition out of all of these to my collection and it’s so comfortable to wear (the MAC matte formula is definitely one of my favourite lipstick formulas). This is the most beautiful wine tone and I can’t get enough of it! If you don’t want to splurge on MAC then you can buy Maybelline Divine Wine which is practically identical but not quite a comfortable to wear.
Topshop Beguiled is a lot more pink toned than Diva, but is still one that I enjoy reaching for in the autumn and winter months. If you don’t like a matte lip then this will be more up your street as it lasts a reasonable amount of time but is in no way drying, unless you mattify it with powder like I tend to do with deeper tones.
I feel that KIKO 520 is probably the easiest shade to wear out of all of these. It’s pretty nude but has a slight purple undertone making it feel more berry rather than a nude. This doesn’t have the longest staying power as it’s fairly creamy, but it’s so comfortable to wear that I couldn’t leave it out. (Edit: Since photographing and writing this post I’ve discovered that this style of lipstick has now been discontinued by KIKO but I imagine that it is very similar to the Creamy Lipsticks they now sell as it is a very creamy formula).
A cult favourite is Kat Von D Lolita which I bought last September in Vegas. This is the only liquid lipstick I have in this post which is surprising as I, like everyone else, am loving them right now. This is the perfect ‘chestnut rose’ (that’s how it’s described) but can look very different on different people. On me it just looks very much like a dark nude with a slight red undertone which I love, and it’s so comfortable and easy to wear that I have no complaints. If I’m not feeling a full on matte lip I sometimes top this with the Essence 06 Barely There lipstick, which is a slightly sheer dusky rose lipstick, to give it a sheen and make the colour a little less brown on me.
The last lipstick I’ve got here is Urban Decay 1993, although I could’ve easily mentioned MAC Whirl which is practically identical (but since I’ve already mentioned a MAC lipstick and UD is cruelty free it made sense to pick this one). This was a lipstick that was hard to get hold of for ages but I think now it’s in the new UD lipstick packaging it’s a little easier to get your hands on, although I own the Matte Revolution version. This is very much a true matte brown which is very me and I can’t wait to wear this a little more in the cooler months.
What are your go to autumn lip shades? Let me know in the comments or on twitter so I can be a little more adventurous this season!
