Mascara Declutter Summer 2017

Mascara Declutter | Essential Twenty

Whenever I have a makeup declutter, I always say to myself that I’m only going to allow myself to have 3 mascaras on the go at any one time. That lasts approximately two weeks. Before long my mascara pod overflows and I struggle to choose a mascara, hence never finishing a full tube. Recently I’ve been having a spring clean of my makeup collection (I know it’s June, and I know it’s a bit late to be spring cleaning) and I’m going to share with you what I’ve decluttered recently – starting with mascaras.

I was really disappointed by the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, and I’ve explained why in a post I wrote a while back. Everyone seemed to love it but for me the formula was a little too wet, the brush was a little too large and to be honest, it did very little to my eyelashes. Another mascara I was disappointed by was the Soap & Glory Thick & Fast mascara. It was okay for everyday use, but nothing about it wowed me so I’ll be popping it in the bin. These two I’m both quite sad about not enjoying as I’d heard great things about.

There are a couple of mascaras that I’ve sad to be saying goodbye to, but they’ve just spent too long open in my makeup drawers. The first is the Maybelline Lash Sensational, which I will 100% repurchase when I’ve got through some more of my stash. It is similar to Benefit Roller Lash but less than half the price, so is a must try if you haven’t yet. The second mascara along the same lines of Lash Sensational in the way that I love it is Stila HUGE Extreme Lash. I talked about this in my winter favourites and for me, the mascara hasn’t been open that long, but I’ve found my eyes to become slightly irritated when I use this now so it’s time to say goodbye.

The last couple of mascaras I’ll be throwing out are both from Rimmel. The Rimmel Volume Shake mascara was another that was alright to use, but I have so many other mascaras that it’s not worth me keeping. It’s also quite a wet formula, and the gimmick of shaking the mascara to refresh doesn’t seem to do a lot. If you want a basic mascara then this is fine, but if you want something with the wow fact this isn’t the one for you. The final mascara I’ll be getting rid of is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded mascara, which I did used to love. Now I think the wand is too big in comparison to my favourites, and it is too much work to use.

I’ve still got a few favourites open in my collection, including the YSL Baby Doll, and a ton more that are still yet to be taken out of the cellophane but I’m slowly making my way through them and can hopefully give you some opinions on soon.
